About us

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is entering an exciting new chapter with the reopening of its maternity unit in April 2026. Following major safety improvements and service redesign, the Trust is building a stronger, safer, and more collaborative maternity service. This role offers a rare opportunity to help shape a refreshed unit from the ground up while delivering compassionate, evidence-based care across hospital and community settings.

Salary: £38,682 – £46,580 per year

Job Type: Permanent | Full-time | Part-time

Your Role Will Include:

  • Deliver safe, high-quality, holistic midwifery care across the pregnancy continuum
  • Work autonomously in both acute and community settings
  • Support personalised choice, physiological birth, and evidence-based practice
  • Act as a role model, mentor students, and support junior staff
  • Respond effectively to clinical changes and emergencies
  • Contribute to governance, audit, quality improvement, and safety initiatives

What We’re Looking For:

Essential:

  • Current NMC Midwifery registration
  • Diploma/Degree in Midwifery
  • Minimum 1 year post-qualification experience
  • Ability to practice autonomously in acute and community settings
  • UK driving licence and access to a car

Desirable:

  • Neonatal Life Support
  • NIPE qualification or working towards
  • Experience with homebirths and water births
